Overview

The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Lancashire is one of the newest veterinary schools in the United Kingdom and was established to widen access to veterinary education while preparing graduates for modern veterinary practice.

The School combines scientific knowledge, clinical skills, animal welfare, professional development and practical experience through an innovative, student-centred curriculum. Its mission is to develop compassionate, resilient and highly skilled veterinary professionals capable of meeting the challenges of contemporary animal healthcare.

Vision: To create confident, skilled and compassionate veterinary professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds while advancing animal health, welfare and One Health principles.

Programmes and Study Areas

Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (BVMS)

A five-year programme designed to prepare students for registration as veterinary surgeons.

BVMS with Foundation Year

A six-year route providing an entry pathway into veterinary medicine for students from a wider range of backgrounds.

Bioveterinary Sciences

Study animal health, disease, welfare and veterinary science from a scientific perspective.

Veterinary Physiotherapy

Advanced study of rehabilitation and physiotherapy for animals.

One Health and One Welfare

Exploring connections between human, animal and environmental health and wellbeing.

Veterinary CPD and Postgraduate Study

Continuing professional development and postgraduate education for veterinary professionals.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Students learn through simulation, immersive technologies, practical clinical skills training and hands-on experiences with a variety of animal species.

Clinical Placements and Professional Experience

Veterinary students complete a combination of Intra-Mural Rotations (IMR) and Extra-Mural Studies (EMS) placements throughout their degree.

Placements provide experience in veterinary practices, farms, animal welfare organisations and clinical environments, enabling students to develop professional competence and confidence.

Graduates from the School of Veterinary Medicine are prepared for a variety of careers in veterinary practice, animal health, research, welfare and related industries.

The BVMS programme has been developed to meet Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) requirements and prepares graduates for professional veterinary practice.
